I’ll Give You The Sun Book Review

image

This book was okay. It was neither good nor bad. For me, it was just okay. I think that I probably read this book when I wasn’t in the mood for a book like that so I’m thinking of trying to read this book again in the future to see if I like it more then. The writing style was really clever and I liked how the author used colours and animals to describe people and what Noah sees in his everyday life. I thought it was also really clever how the perspective change had a title throughout the whole story and how that interlinked into the story. Another good thing about how it was written is that each chapter is in the perspective of a different twin, Noah telling the story at the age of thirteen to fourteen and Jude telling the story at the age of sixteen. However, I didn’t like the way it was written with everything being in the present tense.

I liked the relationship between Noah and Jude as they have such a nice bond. Even through the hard times, they still manage to get along which I really enjoyed reading about. I also really liked Brian as he was so nice and enjoyed introducing other people to his hobbies which made me like his character. He was there for Noah when he needed him which was really sweet. Oscar was really cool and I liked his relationship with Jude as they get along so easily.

I enjoyed how each of these people are linked in a lot of different ways. The way that they were linked I didn’t see coming and it made the story more interesting as well.

Therefore, I liked this book but I think that the writing of it could’ve been better. I also think that the way the story was written could’ve been better. For me, when I read this book, I started reading but then got a bit bored, but a day later I felt like I needed to know what was going to happen next to the characters. Due to this, I gave the book 3/5 stars. I will read this book again in the future and give it another chance as I think I just picked it up at the wrong time.

What did you think of this book? Did you enjoy it more than I did? Do you think I should give it another chance? Please let me know in the comments as I’m interested to read your opinions on the book.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children Book Review

I started this book 2 days ago and I couldn’t put it down. So much happened within this book and each chapter got better and better. I enjoyed how the pictures were written into the story. The pacing was really good and worked well with the story. The beginning I found slow, but gradually the book started picking up the pace which I really enjoyed.  It all seemed to be building up to that final fight scene.

The world building I found really good. I thought it was really clever how the author used a bit of time travel to put a certain day in the past on a repeated loop. The writing style was brilliant. The descriptions of things, places and experiences was so well done that I could see whatever Jacob could see and experience everything that he experienced which I really like when it comes to reading these type of books.

Jacob was such an interesting character to read about. I liked how he started off being a normal boy and developed into a peculiar child who will do anything to look after his friends and keep them safe.

The peculiar children were also really interesting to read about due to their peculiarities and how they came together as a group to fight off the evil. Their friendships was really nice to read about and I also liked reading about how they always stick together and help each other out.

Miss Peregrine was so nice and looked after Jacob while he was at the home. I hope to read more about her in the next book.

I didn’t really like Jacob’s dad. Yes, he wanted what was best for his son, but I think that he should’ve given him more freedom. He kept on asking so many questions whenever Jacob wanted to do something and I kept on thinking that he should be able to spend some time on his own as well.

I loved this book so much and I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to read something new and different and a bit spooky. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Have you read this book? If not, are you thinking of reading it? What were your thoughts?

City Of Lost Souls Book Review

I went into this book with not very high expectations due to the previous book not living up to my expectations. I thought that this story was really good. There were parts in the book that weren’t very fast paced, but in my opinion, the pace was just right for the story.

I really liked going to all of these different places with Clary and how it all built up to the final fight scene. I also really liked how there were many different points of view within each chapter so we had an understanding of what was going on with each character during the same amount of time. The writing was very clever and I really enjoyed the story.

I’m not sure what else I can say without spoiling the book. I really don’t want to spoil it as it was really interesting. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend that you check out this series if you haven’t. The next book that I will be reading is Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

Have you read this book? What were your thoughts on it?

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 6

image

Today’s topic is a book that makes me sad. There aren’t a lot of books that have made me sad. The book that I would pick is The Fault In Our Stars, but I’m pretty sure that that is the answer that a lot of people would pick. Therefore, I’m going to have to choose…

image

The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. This book is one of the only books that can actually make me cry. It’s also my favourite Nicholas Sparks book. It is such a good story and ends up being very sad. I don’t want to spoil it so I won’t talk much about the book, but I highly recommend it if you are in the mood for a contemporary, coming-of-age book.

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 5

Today, the challenge is to pick a book that makes me happy. This book is…

image

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

The reason why this book makes me happy is because everything is so relatable. The characters are relatable and so is the main situation within the story in university. I read this book during the time when I first started college and, since then, I’ve started talking to more people and making new friends which I wouldn’t have done really before. This book has made me happy in a lot of different ways and I am so happy to have decided to pick up this book.

30 Day Book Challenge – Day 4

I know that I haven’t posted any more of the book challenge, so therefore, I’m going to continue on now from where I left off.

image

The fourth day is all about my favourite book from my favourite series. Seeing as, in my previous book challenge post, I said that my favourite series is Throne Of Glass at the moment, my favourite book in the series is Heir Of Fire.

This series gets better with each book which is why I like this one the most. I haven’t read Queen Of Shadows yet, but I hope to read it soon.

What is your favourite book in your favourite series?

The Secret Fire Book Review

Synopsis:

French teen Sacha Winters can’t die. He can throw himself off a roof, be stabbed, even shot, and he will always survive. Until the day when history and ancient enmities dictate that he must die. Worse still, his death will trigger something awful. Something deadly. And that day is closing in.

Taylor Montclair is a normal English girl, hanging out with her friends and studying for exams, until she starts shorting out the lights with her brain. She’s also the only person on earth who can save Sacha.

There’s only one problem: the two of them have never met. They live hundreds of miles apart and powerful forces will stop at nothing to keep them apart.

They have eight weeks to find each other.

Will they survive long enough to save the world?

Review:

I got this book from my best friend for Christmas and only now got around to reading it. I wish I read it earlier as this book is absolutely incredible. I couldn’t put this book down. This story surprised me as I didn’t expect it to go the way it did.   This is the first book in the alchemist chronicles and I will definitely pick the second book up when it gets released in September.

I’ve always enjoyed books that revolve around two people who’ve never met but have a connection. The way that the two authors did this was very creative and it made me end up wanting to know more about what both of the lead characters are doing. I can’t go into a lot of detail or I will spoil the book so I will talk about the characters now.

Taylor was an incredible protagonist who will do anything to reach her biggest goal. Due to this, she meets Sacha and their adventure begins.

Sacha was a really cool character as well. He can’t die until he turns eighteen and Taylor has to save him. I can’t talk much about them, but I love how their relationship grows as the book progresses and they will stop at nothing to keep each other safe.

This was an amazing start to a new series and I am really excited to get the next book. I wish I could get the book now. After reading this, I think I’m going to be thinking about this book for a long time. The good thing is that Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children should arrive tomorrow which I am really excited to read about.

I gave the Secret Fire a 5 out of 5 stars.

Have you read this book? Are you thinking of reading this book? Please let me know in the comments.
